Agriculture Marketing Section
Previously it was Agriculture Economics & Marketing, with one Deputy Director, one Marketing Economist, there Assistant Directors at head quarter and one each Assistant Director at Divisional HQs.
Due to downsizing process, almost all post were abolished and now the related activities are being performed by the Director Marketing at this office with no any supporting staff.
FUNCTIONS
Working out cost of production and economics of crops to be used by various forums for framing production & price policies and fixation of prices.
Coordination & correspondence with Pakistan Tobacco Board, Sugarcane Control Board, Financial Institutions, Agriculture Research & Crop Reporting Services in the relevant matters.
Coordination & correspondence with farmers organization.
Collection of retail and whole sale prices & transmission to the concerned quarters.
Supervision, coordination & correspondence with market management of 2 regulated markets as per Agriculture Produce Markets Act,2007.
Drafting of new Agricultural marketing policy & Agri; marketing Act, under the reforms initiatives of the Govt:
FRUIT & VEGETABLE MARKETS
The Govt: has established two regulated fruit & vegetables Markets at Peshawar and D.I.Khan under the Asian development Bank loan programme during the period 1989 -1993.
these markets are regulated through notified market committees and governed by the Agri; Produce MArkets Act, 2007 and Agri; Produce Markets General rules 2011.
New Agri; Marketing Policy and Marketing Act,2015
Under the Reforms initiatives of the present Govt: the Department engaged US AID Firms Project for reforming Agriculture Marketing System in Khyber PakhtunKhwa, based on Rapid Agriculture Market Assessment and Good International practices.
In this regard several meetings, exchange of views and stakeholders workshops were conducted and a draft Agriculture Marketing policy framework and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Agriculture Marketing Act, were framed accordingly by the department with Collaboration of US Aid during 2014 .
The Agri; Marketing policy is based on competition , free environment for marketing and regulation of private Agriculture Markets through a provincial marketing board.
The provincial Govt; has approved the new marketing policy and now the draft bill of Agri; Marketing (Regulation & development)2015, is under process with Law department for vetting and will shortly be placed before the provincial Assembly for enactment.
