Horticulture is considered as the production and marketing of Fruit, Vegetable, and Flowers.

Objectives

1.To increase overall production and value of horticulture crops.

2.To create an environment facilitating interface among the growers traders and exporters.

3.To minimize the pre and post harvest losses through strategic planning.

4.To establish gene pool in the public and private sector.

5.To ensure availability of certified plant materials.

6.To build the capacity of all the stake holders, extension workers, businessmen and farmers including women.

7.To increase income of the farmers and entrepreneur and all the stakeholders involved in the horticulture sector.

8.To promote mechanism for public private partnership.

Horticulture in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

• The Climatic condition of the Province is very ideal for growing of all types of fruit and vegetable this sector play an important role socio economic development of the forming community.
• The southern District having a typical sub tropical climate and hence is ideal for growing of sub tropical fruits like Mango, cherry, dates, guava, Melon, Water Melon and Ber etc. 
• Upper areas like Swat, Buner, Shangla are most suitable for apples, Peach, plum, persimmon, and areas like Dir, Chitral are most suitable for almonds, apricot etc.
• As for vegetables are concerned, major vegetables of the province are Brinjal, Tomato, Chilly, Potato, Okra, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Radish, Carrot, Sweet potato, Sponge Gourd, Bitter Gourd, Pointed Gourd, Bottle Gourd, Cucumber, Pumpkin, all types of greens, French Bean.
• The Directorate looks after all the business and promote new interventions like establishment of off-season vegetable promotion in tunnel technology kitchen gardening to the vegetable growers and impart training to the former to enhance their production.
